About the artist

Anne Emonts-Küchen

Born in Liège, Belgium, 1963. Based in Eupen. Six-time Luxembourg Art Prize recipient.

“The world is colourful; it sparkles, smells wonderful and is full of beauty, freshness and joy. Hidden in its deep shadows lie chaos, danger, despair, darkness, stench, death and grief.”

I want to help dispel these shadows with beauty, colour, vitality, music, laughter and sparkle, and make the world a little more colourful and cheerful.

A life shaped by art

Born in Liège, Belgium, in 1963, I grew up in Eupen, Belgium, in a world of art, colours, shapes and architecture. From the age of 19, our four children, now grown-up, played a central role in my life. Alongside watercolour and pencil drawing, I discovered a new technique involving stones and sculptures.

Creating oriental-style murals, objects, door frames and glittering forms has a meditative and powerful influence on me. My work has so far earned me six awards from the Luxembourg Art Prize, as well as two certificates of participation for the Swiss Art Expo 2025.

From darkness, beauty

In 2022, the soul of our unique and wonderful son passed into the light.

To prevent my depression from dragging me into darkness and to keep from losing my mind, I have since immersed myself in creating plaster busts, for in them I see all the beauty of our children and all the good souls in the world, and that they are all strength, soul, sunshine, diamonds and love. In doing so, I shift my perspective to shape my new reality. Through this opportunity, I transform suffering into true joy and beauty.

The work

The subject of my work is the playful, dreamy yet vulnerable child who becomes an adult, and who, despite all the wounds inflicted on their soul—and often on their body too—is able to rise up as magnificently as a phoenix from the ashes.

I create hand-modelled bust sculptures from plaster, featuring installations of Swarovski crystals and other crystals, river pearls, Millefiori Murano glass cabochons, pyrite, amethysts, silver-plated, gold-plated and platinum jewellery, tiny objects made of bronze and stainless steel, rhinestones, acrylic, polyurethane, epoxy, pigments, glass, natural stones, shells, mother-of-pearl, cotton, synthetic stones, porcelain, etc.

Large-format installations on walls, door frames, beams and posts.
